Studying in a foreign language in addition to trying to adapt to a foreign education system requires a great deal of patience and resilience. Even more, settling in a new country can have you questioning your decision to move in the first place. From experiencing culture shock to having to navigate a brand new academic landscape, students can find themselves feeling lonely and isolated. Knowing this, Echos offers Life Mentoring services, designed to avoid such harsh transitions and help our students regulate their new lives with more ease of mind.

Our Life Mentoring services aim to help students adapt more quickly to both their academic and social lives abroad. Students are assigned mentors on the first week of their arrival in the UK, and have regular sessions either in person in our London office, or through online meetings. These sessions are shaped around familiarising students with many day to day necessities of living in the UK. Some of these necessities could be: understanding transportation, acquiring travel cards, dietary and other food related questions and recommendations, technical details such as obtaining residence cards (BRP), registering with their local GP, choosing advantageous banks for money transfer from abroad, and opening their UK bank accounts.

Another aspect of settling in the UK is the day to day responsibilities that students renting a house may encounter. For example, understanding council tax systems and how to make the payments, taking over utilities such as electricity, water and heating, or calling a technician for technical problems that may occur over time. With the help of the assigned mentors students will be introduced to these systems, and their registration process will be fully supported by our expert team.

By guiding students to overcome any difficulties they face, we make it possible for them to feel more comfortable in their new lives, become more independent and focus on excelling in their studies.
